Stray dog Loki captured in Hay River

Loki, the part-wolf stray dog that has been living on the run in Hay River for three years, has been captured

A stray dog in Hay River now has a home. Loki the dog was captured over the weekend thanks to the help of a dog whisperer who had come up from Los Angeles to help Bonnie Dawson catch the dog.

Eldad Hagar runs an organization called Hope for Paws. He travels all over the continent rescuing dogs in difficult situations. Dawson says Hagar didn't use drugs or darts to capture Loki, just a lot of patience.

The town had given Dawson until the end of September to catch Loki, otherwise there may have been attempts to put him down. Mayor Andrew Cassidy said after three years, the saga had gone on long enough.

"It's a win-win for Loki," Dawson says. "It's a win for the town. It's a win for all the people who love him so much that were so terrified of what was going to happen to him if I couldn't get him."

He now lives in a dog run in Bonnie Dawson's backyard.
