Stacey Hassard named interim leader of Yukon Party
Pelly-Nitsulin MLA to lead party after Darrell Pasloski steps down, permanent leader to be selected in Spring
Pelly-Nitsulin MLA Stacey Hassard has been tapped as the interim leader of the Yukon Party following the resignation of former Premier Darrell Pasloski earlier this month.
Pasloski resigned as leader of the party in the aftermath of the 2016 territorial election, which saw the Yukon Party defeated by the territory's Liberal Party. Pasloski was defeated by a Liberal challenger in his riding of Mountainview.
Hassard will lead the Yukon Party as it transitions to opposition status after 14 years in power. He was first elected in 2011 and has served as Minister of Economic Development, Minister responsible for the Yukon Housing Corporation, and Minister responsible for the Yukon Liquor Corporation.
The Yukon Party announced Hassard's appointment Thursday in a news release. The release also states that the "process and timeline" to select a new permanent leader will be determined at the party's Annual General Meeting, scheduled for Spring of 2017.
