There was a small fire at the Larga Baffin medical boarding home in Ottawa just after 6 a.m. this morning. 'Everybody was safe,' says Lynn Kilabuk, Larga Baffin's president.
Fire was contained to one room; cause of fire still unknown
There was a small fire at Ottawa's Larga Baffin medical boarding home, which houses patients from Nunavut, just after 6 a.m. this morning.
"Everybody was safe," says Lynn Kilabuk, Larga Baffin's president.
The 4-storey building was evacuated and residents were let back in three hours later. The fire started in the maintenance room and was contained to a small room in the administrative area.
"It was a small fire that was pretty much put out with an extinguisher and the fire department was here to contain the fire."
Kilabuk says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Larga Baffin is the medical residence where Inuit from the Baffin region stay when they're in Ottawa for medical appointments.
