Roger Kyikavichik was elected chief of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation in Old Crow, Yukon, this week.

Roger Kyikavichik, the new chief of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation, says one of his focuses during his four-year term will be on youth.

Kyikavichik was elected chief this week.

"One of the things I certainly want to look at, and hopefully the community will follow and help develop, is a safe and healthy community and workplace," he said.

"I also want to focus on the youth, and also focus on building new leadership, and young leadership."

Kyikavichik beat out fellow candidates Esau Shafer and Gladys Netro.
