Repairs completed to pool in Inuvik, N.W.T.
Reopening date to be announced soon, town says
Repairs to the community pool in Inuvik, N.W.T., have been completed.
After a months-long closure that began in June due to issues with a leaky foundation, the town announced on Facebook on Sunday that the pool had passed a leak test.
It said it would announce a reopening date soon.
Steve Krug, Inuvik's director of parks, leisure and recreation, said the town cannot give a definite date of reopening quite yet but will keep the residents notified of any announcements.
"There are a number of things we still have to do with cleaning and getting signed off by public health, but those steps are in the works and we look forward to residents joining us in the pool very soon," said Krug.
Newly-elected Mayor Peter Clarkson said he expects youth in the community will dive right in when it opens.
"It's a healthy, positive activity and we need to do that, and also get the adults back in the pool. Adults need healthy activity, too, so that's what I'm hoping and looking forward to the day that it's open," said Clarkson.
On Monday, Krug said the pool was set to be topped up by the end of the day.
"Right now, we have to climatize the pool and environment, and have the chemicals balanced in the pool," said Krug.
"We appreciate the public's support during the closure and we look forward to hosting them very, very soon."
