Whitehorse RCMP suspect alcohol was a factor in connection with a two vehicle crash in the city Wednesday evening that seriously injured a driver.

Police say witnesses reported seeing the driver of one of the vehicles flee the collision on foot. Whitehorse emergency crews had to extricate a 25-year-old woman and an infant from the second vehicle.

The crash happened Wednesday evening on the Alaska Highway near the Trails North Truck Stop at Porter Creek.

Police say the baby was not injured, but the woman was later airlifted to Vancouver in critical condition.

RCMP say a suspect was later located nearby and arrested.

Ian Moore, 48, was located by RCMP and arrested. He has been charged with dangerous driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and refusing to provide a breath sample, and remains in police custody.

Police say they are still investigating the collision and asking anyone with more information to contact Whitehorse RCMP.
