Search and rescue officials and RCMP combed along Two Mile Hill in Whitehorse Friday afternoon, looking for evidence relating to a drive-by shooting that sent a woman to hospital.

"We're doing due diligence," an RCMP officer told CBC News as a crew of about a dozen people walked along both sides of the road poking sticks into snow banks and scanning the area.

The officer said they were looking out for public safety in addition to searching for clues.

Police say a 21-year-old woman was walking with a man near the Yukon Inn at around 11:45 p.m. when shots were fired at the pair from a moving vehicle.

She was taken to Whitehorse General Hospital and is in stable condition. The man was not injured.

Police say it was not a random shooting.

They are seeking a suspect vehicle in connection with the incident.
