1 arrested after fire destroys one unit in Pangnirtung 5-plex

One person is in custody following a fire that police say was deliberately set Tuesday night.

RCMP have one person in custody in connection with a house fire in Pangnirtung, Nunavut, Tuesday night and arson charges are pending.

In a news release, police said they responded to the fire at about 9:30 p.m. The fire destroyed one unit in a five-plex, while adjoining units sustained smoke damage.

No one was inside the home at the time, according to RCMP.

RCMP say after an investigation with the local fire department, it was established that the fire was intentionally set.

Nunavut RCMP are also investigating another overnight fire in Pond Inlet.

Mayor Joshua Katsak told the CBC the fire truck broke down while fighting the fire, though a water truck helped get it under control. 

No other details have been released.
