CBC is compiling a running list of candidates forums — events where those running take questions, share their views on big issues, and offer their ideas for making the territory a better place.

Here's a running list of candidate forums hosted by N.W.T. organizations in the coming weeks

Do you want to hear directly from candidates in the Northwest Territories general election? Over the next month, there will be several opportunities to do so.

CBC North has compiled a running list of candidates forums — events at which people running take questions, share their views on big issues, and offer their ideas for making the territory a better place to live.

Oct. 24

Northern Territories Federation of Labour debate — Northern United Place, Yellowknife, from 7 - 9 p.m.

Oct. 29

Yellowknife North debate — Weledeh Catholic School gym from 7 - 9 p.m.

This is the first in a series of Yellowknife riding-specific debates hosted by OpenNWT, with support from the City of Yellowknife and community partners.

These debates will be streamed live online for people who can't attend in person.

Oct. 30

FOXY's NWT All-Candidates Forum  Explorer Hotel from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

At this forum hosted by FOXY (Fostering Open eXpression among Youth), candidates will take questions from young people from across the territory on matters of social justice and the values that should guide the next Legislative Assembly.

Frame Lake debate — École William McDonald Middle School gym from 7 - 9 p.m.

Nov. 1

Yellowknife Centre debate — Mildred Hall School gym from 7 - 9 p.m.

Youth-led forum — École Sir John Franklin High School in Yellowknife from 7 - 9 p.m. 

This forum, hosted by Sir John Franklin High School's Green Team and debate club, is for Yellowknife-area candidates and will focus on issues that matter to young people.

Dehcho Candidate Forum — Fort Providence community hall from 7 - 9 p.m.

People can attend this forum, hosted by the Dehcho First Nations, virtually or in person.

Nov. 2

Range Lake debate — Range Lake North School gym from 7 - 9 p.m.

N.W.T. non-profits forum for Yellowknife and Tu Nedhé-Wiilideh candidates — Baker Community Centre in Yellowknife at 6:30 p.m.

This forum will be jointly hosted by the Status of Women Council of the NWT, YWCA NWT, the Northern Mosaic Network, the Yellowknife Women's Society, the Native Women's Association of the NWT, and the NWT Seniors' Society. It will focus on social issues and the rights of women, elders, Indigenous communities and LGBTQ2S+ people.

The event will be livestreamed on Zoom and Facebook for those who can't attend in person.

Nahendeh Candidate Forum — Fort Simpson community hall from 7 - 9 p.m.

People can attend this forum, hosted by the Dehcho First Nations, virtually or in person.

Nov. 3

Great Slave debate — École Sir John Franklin School gym from 6 - 8 p.m.

Nov. 6

Thebacha candidates forum — Fort Smith Community and Recreation Centre gym at 7 p.m.

This forum is hosted by UNW Fort Smith Region and the Thebacha Chamber of Commerce.

Nov. 8

Inuvik candidates forum Aurora College from 7 - 9 p.m.

The Union of Northern Workers (UNW) Local 29 is hosting this forum for all the candidates in both the Inuvik Boot Lake and the Inuvik Twin Lakes ridings. 

This forum was originally set to take place Nov. 1, but was rescheduled to Nov. 8 due to a sudden death in the community.

Nov. 9

Dene Nahjo NWT Election Forum for Tu Nedhé-Wiilideh, Great Slave, Yellowknife North and Yellowknife Centre candidates — Tree of Peace Friendship Centre, Yellowknife, from 6:30 - 9 p.m.

This is the first of two nights of candidates forums hosted by Dene Nahjo focused on Indigenous peoples' concerns and questions. 

The forums will be streamed live online for people who can't attend in person.

All-Candidates Forum for Hay River — Hay River Community Centre, 6:30 p.m.

This forum, hosted by the Hay River Chamber of Commerce, is for all the candidates running in the Hay River North and South ridings. The forum will also be livestreamed on the Hay River Chamber of Commerce Facebook page.

Nov. 10

Dene Nahjo NWT Election Forum for Frame Lake, Range Lake, Yellowknife South and Kam Lake candidates — Tree of Peace Friendship Centre, Yellowknife, from 6:30 - 9 p.m.

Corrections

  • An earlier version of this article mistakenly said the Nahendeh candidate forum hosted by Dehcho First Nations would take place in Fort Providence. The location is actually Fort Simpson.
