The little Whitehorse trolley that can't... this summer

The tracks along the Whitehorse waterfront will be void of the cheery yellow trolley car this summer. The Waterfront Trolley will not be in service until 2018, according to the organization that runs it.

'Operational concerns' need to be addressed before safe and reliable service can be offered

The tracks along the Whitehorse waterfront will be void of the cheery yellow trolley car this summer.

The Waterfront Trolley will not be in service until 2018, according to the non-profit that operates it.

"There are a number of operational concerns that have been identified with the Waterfront Trolley infrastructure that need to be addressed before the MacBride Museum can offer safe and reliable service of the trolley system to Yukoners and visitors," says a post on the trolley's Facebook page

Patricia Cunning, executive director of the MacBride Museum, declined to comment. The museum took over operations of the trolley when it merged with the Miles Canyon Historic Railway Society in April.

A news release issued by the museum in June said the the trolley was undergoing "significant upgrades" to equipment and rails. It said work was needed on the trolley itself, as well as sections of the track. The track runs between Rotary Peace Park downtown to Spook Creek Station behind Earl's restaurant.

The release said the Yukon Government had provided an additional $215,000 this year.
