People travelling in and out of the Whitehorse subdivison of Riverdale will notice a change Sunday morning.

A new set of stop lights at the hospital road have been turned on.

Riverdale is the largest subdivision in the city. It's home to five schools and the area's only hospital.

It also has only one route into the downtown core. City engineer Wayne Tuck says that's causing congestion and other traffic problems.

"The traffic coming in and out of Riverdale, particularly during school times and in the morning is quite extensive and cars tend to go much quicker as well," Tuck says.

The new traffic signals are set on flashing mode today. They will be fully operational on Monday.
