N.W.T. daycare inspection reports are going online
Starting today, Education, Culture and Employment will post records on its website
Starting today, the N.W.T.'s Department of Education, Culture and Employment will make daycare inspection reports available online.
To date, daycare inspection reports have not routinely been made public.
In January, CBC was told that it would need to file an Access to Information request to see the daycare inspection reports. A request for the inspection reports from the last five years would cost about $3,000.
The news of the changes went out in a letter to parents from the department, which promises information from any inspections conducted after April 1 will be posted on the department's website starting May 15.
The department has also created new, clearer guidelines on the process of inspections and followup for daycares that are non-compliant.
