Woman killed in Second Avenue crash ID'd as Margaret Johnson

Margaret Kathleen Johnson died Tuesday night after being struck by a pickup truck in downtown Whitehorse.

71-year-old was travelling by wheelchair when she was struck and killed by pickup truck

Yukon's chief coroner has named the woman who died Tuesday night after being struck by a pickup truck in downtown Whitehorse. 

Margaret Kathleen Johnson, 71, was operating a motorized wheelchair along Second Avenue near Strickland Street at about 6:30 p.m. when she was hit by a Ford Ranger truck.  

Johnson was taken to Whitehorse General Hospital and pronounced dead shortly after.

The Yukon Coroner's Service says the investigation into Johnson's death is ongoing. 

The driver of the truck is a 72-year-old woman. RCMP have not released details about the cause of the accident, or if any charges will be laid.
