Man armed with knife robs Iqaluit Quickstop
'He said 'Give me all your money;' I gave him all the money:' cashier Nicole Amagoalik
A man robbed the Quickstop convenience store at Inuksugait Plaza in Iqaluit Thursday night, armed with a knife.
"I was so scared," said cashier Nicole Amagoalik. "I was scared it was a gun."
Amagoalik was working at the Quickstop when a man wearing a mask walked into the store around 8 p.m. She says he grabbed a can of Coke, walked up to the cash and started to pay but once the till drawer was open he pulled out a pocket knife.
"He took out his knife, and he said "Give me all your money,'" she said.
"I gave him all the money. I wasn't going to risk my life for that. Money is money. You can always get it back."
He did not take the money from the other cash register.
Amagoalik says the robber was wearing a mask, and describes the suspect as having blue eyes and light skin.
She thinks he made off with just over a thousand dollars.
"First and foremost we're grateful no one was hurt in the incident," said Derek Reimer, a spokesperson for the North West Company. "We're going to leave it to the local authorities to do their job."
Police in Iqaluit are investigating the incident.
