Zabey Nevitt resigns from Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board

The Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board is looking for a new executive director.

Zabey Nevitt, who has held the job for almost six years, resigned earlier this week.

"It'll be business as usual," says Willard Hagen, chair of the land and water board, who says Nevitt has left the board to take a job with the Tlicho government.

The resignation takes effect the beginning of November. Hagen says he may have to take a more active role in managing files until then.

As a result he may have to declare a conflict of interest on some those files.

"I will just take more responsibility and probably there will be more conflicts as a result where I will have somebody like Floyd Adlem chair." Adlem has been a member of the board for 11 years.

Nevitt was not immediately available for comment.

He was executive director of the Wek'eezhii Land and Water board prior to joining the Mackenzie board.

The chairs of all four land and water boards in the N.W.T. are meeting in Yellowknife this morning to set the process for hiring a new executive director.

Once candidates have been identified, the chairs will collectively decide who among them will be the new executive director.
