Iqaluit fugitive caught by RCMP

A 22-year-old man who escaped police custody in Iqaluit Monday was tracked down a little before 5 p.m. Tuesday.

A 22-year-old man who escaped police custody in Iqaluit Monday was tracked down a little before 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Police had asked for public assistance to find Matthew Haslem, whom they described as "low risk" and not a danger to the public. 

Haslem was before the Nunavut Court of Justice on property- and drug-related offences.  

RCMP say he will now face additional charges of being unlawfully at large, escaping lawful custody, breach of probation and breach of undertaking.

Haslem's next court appearance is Jan. 10 in Iqaluit.
