No word on when Hunter Tootoo will return to work, says office
MP's constituency office in Ottawa still open with full time workers
Hunter Tootoo's office says there's no word when the Nunavut MP will return to work, "as he continues on the road to recovery."
His office released a statement to CBC on Monday detailing how Tootoo's constituents can connect with his staff should they need help with federal issues, given that his Iqaluit office is still shuttered.
Tootoo suddenly resigned from his position as minister of fisheries, oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard at the end of May in order to seek treatment for addiction issues. He also left the Liberal caucus but remains Nunavut's member of Parliament.
Tootoo's office in Ottawa is still open and has full time staff available during regular business hours, according to the statement. It says constituents in Nunavut can contact the office if they need assistance with federal programs, like citizenship inquires, passport issues or pension plans.
"At this time, there is no update on the expected return of Hunter Tootoo to his office," the statement reads.
"He thanks his constituents for their understanding and support, and for respecting his request for privacy at this difficult time."
