The trial for Hugues Latour got off to a slow start today in Yellowknife.

The former Inuvik teacher is facing charges of sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching and trafficking of marijuana.

Less than half of the people who had been summoned to court for jury duty Monday showed up. A number of those that did were excused because they don't speak French.

The court only managed to elect two jury members for the bilingual trial. The jury needs 12 members to proceed.

On Monday afternoon, lawyers will make their arguments to see if the sherriff will need to head to the streets to find other potential jury members.
