Holland America will repeat Dawson City flights

Holland America flew about 15,000 cruise ship passengers into the Klondike this summer. A marketing executive says they plan to do it again in 2015.

This year for the first time, Holland America flew about 15,000 cruise ship passengers into the Klondike for one- or two-night stays in Dawson City.

Previously, the company bussed tourists in.

Bill Fletcher, Holland America's director of marketing and sales for Alaska-Yukon, says next year, the company plans to keep the tourists there longer.

"Most of our guests who visit Dawson spent two nights there. We have some economy patterns that spend a single night, but in 2015, there'll be fewer one-night stays and more of the two-night stays."

Fletcher says it's not known yet which air carrier will get the contract for the 2015 season.

This year, Air North had the contract to fly cruise ship passengers between Fairbanks and Dawson City.

Fletcher says next year's contract is being put out for bids.
