Gwich'in Tribal Council members head to polls to elect next grand chief

Incumbent Ken Kyikavichik is running for re-election against former N.W.T. MLA Frederick 'Sonny' Blake.

Members of the Gwich'in Tribal Council are heading to the polls today to elect their next grand chief.

Voting opened at 9 a.m. Monday morning in four N.W.T. communities: Inuvik, Tsiigehtchic, Fort McPherson and Aklavik.

Incumbent Ken Kyikavichik is running for re-election against former territorial MLA and speaker of the house Frederick Blake Jr., also known as Sonny.

Each grand chief term is four years long.

Polls are set to close at 8 p.m.
