Grizzly bear that attacked hunter not found by N.W.T. wildlife officers

N.W.T. wildlife officers haven't been able to find the grizzly bear that attacked a hunter in the Mackenzie Mountains near Norman Wells last week.

Bad weather prevented ENR team from arriving in Mackenzie Mountains until Saturday

Wildlife officers haven't been able to find the grizzly bear that attacked a hunter in the Mackenzie Mountains near Norman Wells, N.W.T., last week.

According to the RCMP, the hunter was spotting a moose Thursday morning when the bear came out of nowhere and attacked. The hunter was dragged down an embankment and sustained serious injuries. He was taken to Norman Wells by helicopter then medevaced to Yellowknife.

Bad weather prevented a team from the N.W.T. Department of Environment and Natural Resources from getting into the mountains until Saturday. It had no luck locating the grizzly.

This was the second grizzly bear attack in the Mackenzie Mountains in the last year. Last September an American hunter was killed in a bear attack. An ENR team was able to find and destroy that bear.
