GPS, flares stolen from plane parked at Pangnirtung airport

An airplane was broken into at the Pangnirtung, Nunavut, airport on Tuesday.

A 1957 Piper Super Cub airplane was broken into at the Pangnirtung, Nunavut, airport on Tuesday.

A GPS system and six flares were stolen from the small private airplane, which was parked overnight at the airport.

The plane belongs to Alexis Peltier and Michel Laplace-Toulouse, two Frenchmen who live in Kenya. They are travelling from Portland, across northern Canada, to Paris to raise money for conservation projects in Kenya.

They had left Iqaluit Monday on their way to Nuuk, Greenland, when they stopped in Pangnirtung.

Police are asking for the public’s help in returning the stolen items to the owners.
