Shots fired, vehicle set on fire in Fort Smith, N.W.T.

Police in Fort Smith, N.W.T., are asking the public for help after shots were fired into a residence and a vehicle was set on fire over the weekend.

RCMP said the two incidents happened minutes apart early on Saturday morning and are believed to be linked, and related to the local drug trade.

In a news release on Monday, RCMP said they received a report just after 5 a.m. on Saturday of "several" shots fired from a vehicle into a home on Field Street. Police say they believe it was a targeted act.

The vehicle immediately fled the scene after the shots were fired, police said.

A few minutes later, police were called to a vehicle on fire at Klondike Avenue and Raven Street. The unoccupied vehicle was engulfed by flames and extinguished by the fire deparatment. 

Nobody was injured in either incident. 

Police are asking anyone with information to call them at 872-1111 or to contact Crime Stoppers. They're also asking residents in the areas of Field Street, Klondike Avenue and Raven Street who have security camera footage showing any suspicious activity between 4:45 a.m. and 5:15 a.m. on Saturday to contact them.
