The second house fire of the week ripped through a home under construction in Yellowknife's Niven Lake subdivision on Thursday night.

The fire department was called to the home on Moyle Dr. around 11:20 p.m., according to a news release from the City.

"Multiple calls indicated that the roof of the home, in the final stages of construction, was on fire."

The home was unoccupied at the time. The city says 24 personnel responded, as well as an ambulance and a rescue truck.

The fire was out by about 3 a.m., but crews continued to watch through the night for any possible hotspots.

"The fire damage was limited to the roof and top floor, with smoke and water damage throughout the structure," the news release said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Tuesday a home in Yellowknife's Old Town was destroyed after a fire started in the attic space. The cause of that fire is also under investigation.
