Small brush fire Tuesday highlighted the area's dry conditions
Hay River's fire chief has declared a ban on open fires in the town due to dry conditions.
On Tuesday, a small brush fire broke out near the Tri-Service park. Residents had it under control by the time the fire department arrived but Chief Ross Potter said it highlights the fact that conditions are tinder dry.
The chief says no open fires are allowed until further notice and he won't be signing any burn permits.
He said residents are still able to have fires within proper fire pits.
