1 man dead after Alaska Highway collision in Whitehorse
32-year-old B.C. man was ejected from his truck after hitting another vehicle pulled over on shoulder
Whitehorse RCMP are investigating a Sunday night collision on the Alaska Highway in Whitehorse that left one man dead.
Police say a Ford F-350 pickup truck hauling a flat-deck trailer hit a Nissan SUV that was pulled over on the shoulder of the highway, just north of Two Mile Hill. It happened at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday night.
In a news release, RCMP said one of the truck's front tires was destroyed on impact, causing the driver to lose control and veer off the road. The truck rolled on an embankment and landed on its roof.
RCMP said the driver of the truck, a 32-year-old B.C. man, was found dead next to the vehicle. He had not been wearing a seatbelt and was was ejected from the vehicle on impact.
The driver of the SUV was not injured.
The highway was closed for about three hours early Monday morning.
RCMP are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.
