The N.W.T.’s Department of Environment and Natural Resources wants to find out who shot a black bear in Reid Lake Territorial Park Sunday morning without reporting the kill.
“While it is legal to shoot a bear in self-defence when life or property is threatened, the kill must be reported to the nearest Renewable Resource Officer as soon as possible,” a press release states.
“In most cases, the officer comes to the site and takes possession of the bear.”
The bear — a female about a year and a half old — was shot at the Reid Lake campground around 7 a.m. August 17.
