Alberta couple busted in Yellowknife motel for allegedly making counterfeit cash

RCMP are warning people in Yellowknife to check their money carefully after an Alberta couple was discovered in a local motel allegedly making counterfeit currency.

Surveillance video helped track down a couple who were allegedly making and using counterfeit cash

Two young people from Alberta are under arrest and charged with making counterfeit money in Yellowknife.

According to an RCMP news release, on Monday, a local business alerted them to bills they believed were counterfeit.

Using surveillance footage, police were able to identify the suspects and track them down at a local motel.

Police searched the couple's room and seized suspected counterfeit money, as well as equipment associated with producing counterfeit money.

Tyler Melnick, 23, and Karlee Hanelt, 22, both from Alberta, are facing charges.

RCMP say that although they've arrested the pair, people and businesses should should "be vigilant" when checking their money.
