People in Coral Harbour, Nunavut, are being warned to boil their drinking water after some residents complained of finding worms or bugs in their water tanks.

Nunavut's health department issued the boil water advisory on Tuesday. Residents should boil water for a minimum of one minute before drinking it or using it to prepare infant formula or anything which will be eaten.

David Matoo of Coral Harbour says many people are finding worms in their water tanks.

"Yes, there are a lot," he said. "I looked into my water tank and found a couple worms or bugs. A lot of people are Facebooking that they saw worms in their tanks, posting pictures of what kind of worms they are, and whatnot."

The Nunavut government says an environmental health officer based in Rankin Inlet will be heading to Coral Harbour early next week.
