The City of Yellowknife is showing its support of the LGBT community today.

Late Tuesday night Public Works employees painted a crosswalk in front of City Hall in the colours of the Pride rainbow. The rainbow flag is a symbol of the LGBT community; the painted crosswalks are seen as a sign of welcoming to the community.

The crosswalk is at the intersection of 49 Avenue and 52 Street.

Yellowknife joins a host of other cities, such as Ottawa, Halifax and Cornerbrook, that have also painted crosswalks in the Pride colours.

"Love our new crosswalks outside City Hall," said Yellowknife Mayor Mark Heyck in a Facebook post.

"Thanks to our Public Works crew who were up very late making it happen."

The City of Yellowknife's Facebook page also shared photos of the new paint job, exclaiming, "It's [a] good day to be a Yellowknifer!"
