A 14-year-old boy from the Carmacks, Yukon, area died after losing control of his all-terrain vehicle on Tuesday afternoon.
RCMP Const. Greg Tannahill told CBC News on Wednesday that the boy was travelling on a local off-road trail when the incident occurred.
He said local firefighters, ambulance and RCMP officers went to the scene "and found the boy trapped beneath the quad, which had rolled down a rather steep hill," he said.
The boy, whose name has not been released, was taken to the Carmacks nursing station where he later died from his injuries.
Tannahill said the boy was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, which could have been a factor in his death.
