Statement asks for privacy as criminal proceedings move forward
Brandy Vittrekwa's parents are thanking the people who came forward to assist the police investigation into her death, following the arrest of a youth in connection with the teen's murder.
A 15-year-old male was charged with second-degree murder yesterday in Vittrekwa's death. The 17-year-old's body was found on a walking trail in Whitehorse on Dec. 8.

Norine Vittrekwa and Clarence Snowshoe issued a statement today to media through Karen Snowshoe.
"Brandy's parents would like to thank the public for their continued support and prayers," the statement said.
"The outpouring of support, even from complete strangers, has been tremendous. We would also like to thank those who have come forward to assist the RCMP with their investigation.
"At this point in time, we cannot provide any details about the criminal case. As criminal proceedings move forward, we don't want to do anything that would interfere with or jeopardize the process.
"In this respect, we ask that the press (and public) respect the family's privacy at this time."
The accused is due back in court May 7 for a bail hearing.
