Black wolf spotted in downtown Yellowknife

Jewley Thrasher says her daughter spotted a wolf on a trail from Sissons Court to the Mac’s Convenience Store on Forrest Drive. ‘She just froze for a few seconds, then turned and started walking in the other direction.’

A black wolf was sighted near downtown Yellowknife on Thursday night.

Jewley Thrasher says her daughter was walking on a trail from Sissons Court to the Mac's Convenience store on Forrest Drive when she spotted the wolf.

"She stopped at the top of the trail and put her head up and at the bottom of the trail there was a wolf standing there looking at her,” Thrasher says.

‘She just froze for a few seconds, then turned and started walking in the other direction."

Thrasher said her daughter was certain it was a wolf and not a coyote.

She said it was a huge animal, about a metre tall and almost two metres long.

Thrasher is cautioning people in the area to beware.

Local wildlife officers say they have had no reports of wolf sightings.
