Starting today, people in Iqaluit will get the chance to hear about the future of Baffin Island caribou.
The Nunavut Wildlife Management Board is holding a public hearing today through Friday to determine what recommendations to make about long-term harvesting limitations.
Nunavut's Environment Minister imposed an emergency ban on Jan. 1 on all caribou hunting on the island, calling the situation "urgent."
The drastic measure came after aerial surveys found that the herd, once plentiful, had largely disappeared.
The hearing starts at 9 a.m. at the Anglican Parish Hall and runs until 5 p.m.
