Former Liberal MP Jack Anawak has decided he'd like to have his old job back, representing Nunavut in Ottawa.

Former Liberal MP Jack Anawak has decided he'd like to have his old job back, representing Nunavut in Ottawa.

The 56-year-old announced Tuesday he is going to make a bid for theLiberal nomination, replacing outgoing Nunavut MP Nancy Karetak-Lindell, whowill not run in the next federal election.

Karetak-Lindell has held the seat since replacing Anawak in 1997. He was the MP for Nunatsiaq for two terms beginning in 1988.

Since then he has served as a territorial MLA and most recently as ambassador of circumpolar affairs, a job he lost last year when the Conservatives came to power in Ottawa.

As ambassador, he represented northern Canada on the Arctic Council and had a role in developing a system to measure the impacts of climate change on the North.

Anawakis currently studying business law, ethics and economics.
