The Nunavut Impact Review Board has given Agnico Eagle the go-ahead for the company's second Nunavut gold mine.
The Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development accepted NIRB's recommendation that the Meliadine project be given the green light, and the board has issued the company a project certificate.
The Review Board attached 127 conditions to the project certificate covering everything from wildlife monitoring to air quality control.
The company intends to mine and process gold at the site near Rankin Inlet.
Agnico Eagle already has one fully operational gold mine in the Kivalliq: the Meadowbank mine near Baker Lake.
