Whale Release and Strandings of Newfoundland and Labrador has rescued hundreds of whale over the years, but the group's work is not often seen by the public.
Wayne Ledwell and his team members took underwater video of a trapped humpback whale seriously tangled in snow crab gear near Upper Island Cove.
The fisherman who owned the gear called the team Sunday night. They returned Monday with a borrowed longliner to slowly free the 30 to 35 foot long whale, while saving the gear at the same time.
