Crash closes section of Veterans Memorial Highway Friday afternoon

A section of Veterans Memorial Highway was briefly shut down Friday afternoon, as emergency crews responded to a crash.

It happened around 1 p.m., just west of the Spaniard's Bay turnoff.

A witness at the scene said it appeared as though two vehicles were involved in the collision.

The Bay Roberts fire department tweeted that the highway was closed between Bay Roberts and the Spaniard's Bay turnoff as crews attended the scene.

It reopened an hour later.

There is no immediate word on the condition of those involved, but a witness indicated one person appeared to be seriously hurt.
