Impaired driving suspected after driver ends up in Torbay ditch

Police suspect a driver was impaired when he drove into a ditch in Torbay early Sunday evening.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary received multiple calls about a possible impaired driver just after 5 p.m.

When officers arrived to the scene, they found the vehicle in a ditch on the side of the road.

The 20-year-old driver was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

He was issued a seven-day licence suspension and the accident remains under investigation.

3 times legal limit

Hours later, police arrested and charged a woman in St. John's with impaired driving.

The RNC stopped her vehicle on Kenna's Hill just after 11 p.m.

She was given a breathalyzer test and found to be more than three times over the legal limit.

The 23-year-old was arrested and will appear in court at a later date.
