Three fires on Saturday, no injuries
Saturday was a busy day for Newfoundland and Labrador firefighters, with three fires on the Northeast Avalon.
A family of four was displaced from their townhouse in the west end of St. John's, after a dryer fire damaged their home on McKay Street.
The Canadian Red Cross arranged emergency lodging, food, and clothing for the family, which included a woman, a 17-year-old girl, and two twin six-year-old boys.
In the Richmond Hill subdivision, a family was able to escape safely from a fire at their residence on Ashbourne Drive.
St. John's Regional Fire Department crews discovered two mattresses ablaze when they arrived at the home on Saturday morning.
A trailer that a family was living in on Bell Island also caught fire Saturday, and was fully engulfed by flames by the time officials arrived.
The family was able to get out safely, but the fire also caused damage to a nearby house.
Police say the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
