#TBT: Ice delays the Bell Island ferry
Once upon a time, there was a problem with the Bell Island ferry.
Oh, wait a minute. That happens all the time, as residents of the island will agree.
In this week's #ThrowbackThursday, our featured video is from from late March, 1986.
Debbie Cooper reported on ice in the tickle between Bell Island and Portugal Cove that kept the ferry from running, and forced people to take a small airplane to get on and off the island.
People on Bell Island weren't happy about the situation, with some waiting hours for one of the 15 available plane seats. One resident said the ferry just wasn't built properly for the run across the tickle.
For 36 dart players visiting the island from Conception Bay South, it may have even been their last visit.
It's an all too familiar situation, as people on the island were forced to take a helicopter to get on and off Bell Island in January while repairs were being done on the MV Flanders.
The more things change, the more they stay the same!
