Surgeon named president of Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association
Dr. Christopher Cox has been named as president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association.
Cox, a general surgeon and breast surgical oncologist based in St. John's, was named president during the NLMA's annual general meeting at the Health Sciences Centre on Saturday.
The surgeon focused on "improving health system sustainability, health promotion, physician leadership and professional practice, and physician resources," during his inaugural speech, a news release said.
Cox has also weighed into the discussion on legislative changes regarding electronic cigarettes.
"We are very pleased to see that the provincial government is acting to improve the lives of its citizens by prohibiting the sale of flavoured tobacco products, which contain ingredients that are intended to boost their appeal to young people," said Cox.
Cox is the 91st president of the NLMA, which represents physicians in the province.
