Newfoundland and Labrador has switched places with Ontario in order to host the Canada Summer Games later than originally planned.

The province was supposed to host the games in 2021, but in a news release Friday, the government said it needs more time to prepare.

"The switch in the hosting rotation allows us more time to determine infrastructure needs, meet those requirements, and prepare to host the Canada Summer Games in 2025," said Clyde Jackman, minister responsible of seniors, wellness and social development

Ontario will now host the 2021 games.

Newfoundland and Labrador will play host in 2025.
