St. John's to debate whistleblower bylaw
The City of St. John's is preparing to reform its whistleblower bylaw.
The City of St. John's is preparing to introduce a whistleblower bylaw.
At Monday evening's weekly meeting, Coun. Danny Breen told fellow councillors that the city's legal department is analyzing a draft bylaw.
"It's important that people–especially our employees–are given the protection they need in order to point out when things are not going properly," Breen said. "This is not driven by any specific incident."
Breen said the bylaw will strengthen the city's current policy, which aims to protect employees who report problems in the workplace.
The new bylaw proposal may be ready for a vote in council before May.
