A St. John's student has won some big bragging rights.
Jennifer Mong is the winner of the 2012 Postmedia Canspell National Spelling Bee.
She won at Thursday night’s in competition in Toronto after correctly spelling the word "vindaloo."
Mong, 12, is a student at MacDonald Drive Junior High.
She told CBC Thursday that she studied the word just last week as she prepared for the competition.
"I was like, 'Oh I totally know this word. I was really excited," Mong told CBC on Thursday morning.
Her Canadian title comes with a $7500 prize.
She’s now expected to compete at the Scripps Spelling Bee in Washington in May.
