Sharpen your skates — the Loop opens Thursday at Bannerman Park in St. John's.
The popular ice rink in downtown St. John's will open at 4 p.m. on New Year's Eve for a skating party, hosted by the City of St. John's.
The party, which runs until 6 p.m., will feature music and free hot chocolate.
The Loop will remain open for the rest of the winter from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day, weather permitting.
The city had hoped to open the rink before Christmas, but was delayed by rain and warm weather.
This is the third year for the Loop, which cost $1.8 million to construct in 2013.
