Sherman Downey and the Ambiguous Case's stellar year

Corner Brook-based band Sherman Downey and the Ambiguous case have had a pretty busy year; they won the CBC Searchlight competition in April, played some shows and released a much-awaited new album.

Downey said the year was a bit of a whirlwind since winning the Searchlight competition.

"We were getting close to having the [new] album done and then this contest came about and we thought it might be a good way for people to just get a heads-up that the album was coming out," he said.

"So we entered a track, not really hoping for much other than that, and Newfoundland and Labrador happened, and we ended up taking home the top prize."

He said the bad is excited to move into a new phase with the release of The Sun In Your Eyes.

"For the last couple years since Honey For Bees was released, we've been working at getting this new album out, and there's a specific kind of work now that the album is out finally," Downey said.

"It's nice to kind of move from that kind of promotion of the album coming out to, 'Hey, we've got a new album out.' Now we're in a whole different phase of legwork."
