Newfoundlander Ryane Clowe will kick off the 2016-2017 NHL season on the bench as an assistant coach for the New Jersey Devils.

Clowe began his career in the National Hockey League in 2003, and had been playing with the New Jersey Devils since 2013.

After being sidelined by concussion related problems, Clowe spent last season working with the team's coaching and hockey operations staff.

In an interview posted on the New Jersey Devils website, Clowe said he's long wanted to pursue a coaching career.
