Newfoundland musician Alan Doyle says the day before the scheduled St. John's Regatta is the "greatest Tuesday in the world." But do you know how the Regatta Roulette began?

Each year, on the day before the Royal St. John's Regatta is scheduled, hundreds of St. John's residents take their chances on partying in what's become known as Regatta Roulette.

If you win, you get a day to sleep it off. But if you lose, you're in for a long day at work on a Wednesday.

According to Larry Dohey, the manager of collections at The Rooms, it's a tradition that's as old as the Regatta itself.

For Newfoundland musician Alan Doyle, it's the greatest Tuesday night in the world.
