RCMP training exercise at St. John's school Thursday

RCMP will be conducting a training exercise at the former I.J. Samson School in St. John's Thursday.

There will be an unusual number of police in the Bennett Avenue area of St. John's Thursday morning, but residents shouldn't be worried.

RCMP will be conducting training exercises at the former I.J. Samson school.

The training session will start at 8 a.m. and run until 4 p.m. at the vacant school on Bennett Avenue.

The training is a tactical exercise involving RCMP's critical incidents teams, negotiators and incident commanders responsible for managing serious events.

Residents may experience higher levels of traffic in the morning and again when training ends. However, no loud noises are expected since the exercise will take place indoors.

RCMP said in a statement they apologize for any inconvenience this may cause for residents who live in the area.
